Temporary Update Delay

Due to unforseen issues, namely me getting sick over the weekend and part of last week, there was no update today.  Anyone who sent in reviews will also notice that those did not post on Monday as they normally do.  Have no fear.  We are not looking at another drought of no updates for several months.  The update is already underway and is scheduled to happen next week.

The good news is that to make up for the delays, not one, but two list will be updated next Monday.  The Best 100 Movies which was supposed to go today as well as the previously scheduled Best 100 Musicians will both be updated on Monday the 6th of September.

All comments will be posted before the next full update.

Sorry for the delays and thank you for your patience.

Varying Book Reviews

Its funny how people receive different books and how they review them.  Here are a few excerpts from some recent book reviews from The Best 100 Novels List.

  • “I hate this book. My love for reading was KILLED after finishing”
  • “LIterally just finished reading this book an hour ago and I thought it was amazing”
  • “At first this book was very confusing”
  • “This book is the best book that I have ever read (and I have read all ten of the current top ten in this list!)”
  • “do not this book I like”
  • “It’s so boring and samey that it’s like Chinese water torture. Awful.”
  • “It is amongst the best 10 twentieth century novels I have read”
  • “this book is brilliant. an absolute master piece”

While there are vastly differing opinions on that list, they are all taken from reviews of Catch 22 by Joseph Heller.  Nearly all of the books on the list have reviews with this type of variance and I just found it entertaining to look at the way someone can call a book the best book ever written while someone else says that the exact same book killed their love for reading.

Anyone else find any entertaining reviews on any of the lists that are worth mentioning?

Best 100 Children’s Books Update is Up

The Best 100 Children’s Books list has just been updated.  The list still has relatively few votes when compared to some of the other lists so I expect it to still change quite a bit over time.   For this reason, I have not compiled a complete list as of yet.  The list did, however, go from 15 children’s books to 30 in this update.  The entire list changed quite a bit in this update including the former number one book, Green Eggs and Ham, moving all the way down to #6.  To find out who took over the top five spots check out the entire list at The Best 100 Children’s Books.

Make sure to check back next Monday for an update of The Best 100 Movies List.

The Best 100 Authors Updates Just Posted

The Best 100 Authors list has just been updated.  Many of the usual suspects stayed at the top as expected.  Authors like Shakespeare, Dostoevsky, Dickens, and others continue to dominate the top of the list as in previous lists.  The middle and end of the list is where the changes mostly took place.  To check out the new list go to the Best 100 Authors page.

Check back next Monday for an updated version of The Best 100 Children’s Books List.

And as always you can find previous versions of any of our lists by clicking on the “Previous Lists” link at the bottom of the current list.

Looking for Errors

No, I’m not talking about errors in the order of the list or omissions that you feel were made.  What I’m talking about are spelling and grammar errors on the main site.  A lot of work goes into updating all of these lists and certain things do get overlooked.  Spelling of peoples names is often a problem and I appreciate anyone and everyone who writes in to correct me.  So please, if you find spelling errors on any of the pages please let me know through the Contact Form.

Thank you to everyone who has already written in to help keep the website as error free as possible.
